What is coaching in the ADI World Language Community?
In the ADI world language community, coaching is a collaborative, reflective practice that helps teachers internalize and confidently apply acquisition‑driven instruction. Coaches don’t evaluate—they guide. Through targeted feedback, modeling, and supportive conversation, coaching creates a space where teachers can experiment, refine their skills, and deepen their understanding of how students acquire language. It’s hands‑on, relationship‑based professional learning that empowers educators to make intentional instructional choices, build stronger classroom routines, and grow in their ability to deliver joyful, comprehensible, proficiency‑driven instruction.
ADI coaching is a gentle, supportive way for teachers to learn the rhythms of acquisition‑driven instruction. For newcomers, coaching offers a safe space to try things out, ask questions, and build confidence with comprehensible input routines. Coaches model strategies, help you notice what’s working, and guide you toward small, doable shifts that make a big impact on student understanding. It’s not evaluative—it’s a partnership that helps you grow your ADI practice one intentional step at a time.
Becoming a coach with the World Language Coaching Collaborative is a fulfilling way to help other educators develop their skills while refining your own professional practice.
In the near future we will offer training in becoming an ADI Coach. Stay tuned for some exciting opportunities.
